This past weekend, students, staff and volunteers of the Harrisburg Area YMCA attended the 2013 Model Convention at the State Capitol. This yearly gathering of the Youth In Government clubs from across Pennsylvania welcomed Junior High and High School students who practiced the art of State government in the various chambers of the capitol. During the closing ceremonies on Sunday, three Harrisburg Area YMCA elected leaders were announced for 2014.
The 2014 Speaker of the House is Ryan Plesco from the East Shore YMCA Blue delegation. Ryan will be a senior at Central Dauphin High School next year and has been in the program for 3 years. Ryan is a 2-time Committee Chair, the current president of the Blue delegation and will be attending the YMCA Conference on National Affairs for the 2nd time.
The 2014 Lieutenant Governor is Molly Oken from the East Shore YMCA White delegation. Molly will be a junior at Central Dauphin High School next year and has been in the program for 2 years. Molly served as Chair of the Senate Law and Justice Committee last weekend as the highest ranking sophomore in the program.
The 68th Youth Governor is Calli Umipig from the Camp Curtin YMCA delegation. Calli will be a senior next year at Sci-Tech High School and has been a 4-year member of the Youth and Government program. She has previously served as Speaker of the Youth General Assembly (middle school) and as a Committee Chair. Calli will be attending the YMCA Conference on National Affairs this summer for the 3rd time as a delegate from Pennsylvania.
