New York / Berlin (PRWEB) December 07, 2012
artnet Auctions is proud to feature The Art of Yayoi Kusama, a special sale that is live for online bidding from December 6 to 13, 2012. The sale offers a curated selection including paintings, photographs, prints, and sculptures that celebrate the diversity and dynamism of the famously provocative Japanese avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama (b.1929). The pieces have estimates ranging from US$3,000 to US$70,000. Kusama is best known for her works featuring repeating motifs and surreal imagery that embrace themes of obsession, psychology, feminism, sex, creation, destruction, and self-reflection. This sale includes works in all media and various price points. A highlight of the sale is Pumpkin (2000), a stunning, unique red and black mixed media pumpkin sculpture, estimated at US$50,000 to US$70,000.
The sale also includes Pumpkin (Yellow) (1997), a sublime yellow and black acrylic painting on canvas by Kusama. This authenticated work, estimated at US$35,000 to US$50,000, is professionally framed and comes to artnet Auctions and the secondary market for the first time from a top, private Japanese collection.
Other noteworthy works in the sale include original works on paper, prints, and select photographs of the artist herself. Flowers QE (1993), the sublime black-and-white screenprint from an edition of 90, combines three of Kusama’s most iconic images—her ‘infinity net’ pattern, polka dots, and flowers. This piece is priced at US$10,000.
