The LASIK surgery staff of the Atlanta Vision Institute, where board-certified LASIK surgeon Dr. Ashraf works, was interviewed on December 3rd to delineate surgery-day-expectations for potential patients. The team went into detail about the entire process from the moment patients set foot in the facility to the moment they leave. Shaina Moua, office manager of the Atlanta Vision Institute, talked about how patients should wear comfortable clothing on the day of the surgery and should remove their contact lenses prior to arriving; patients are then given a thorough pre-surgery consultation by Moua and must sign some paperwork.

Dr. Ashraf was also interviewed about surgery-day-expectations: “Before the surgery occurs, I sit with the patients individually and walk them through the whole process to give them a clear idea of what to expect. This is a great time for patients to ask me any last-minute questions that they may have about the surgery itself and about the outcome.”

In addition, the staff of the Atlanta Vision Institute explained that on surgery day, after patients have had their consultations, they are guided into a room where the surgery will occur, which typically lasts about 10 minutes per eye. After the surgery is over, patients must have someone that they know and trust to drive them home.

An experienced ophthalmologist and LASIK surgeon, Dr. Ashraf has performed over 40,000 LASIK surgeries. With an office in Atlanta and a clinic in Dubai, Dr. Ashraf has had years of experience performing LASIK and even more experience with the excimer laser, even before the FDA approval, while on faculty at Johns Hopkins University. In addition to his prestigious medical degree and multiple fellowships, Dr. Ashraf completed a corneal and refractive surgery fellowship at the famous Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins.
