Atlanta liquor shop Capital City Package announces Derby Day essentials for those who partake in the annual Derby Day. Most Kentucky Derby enthusiasts traditionally drink bourbon-based drinks, like the famous Mint Julep. “There's something about this powerful drink that grows gradually sweeter and more watered down as the ice melts and the bourbon and sugar settle together at the bottom of the glass,” says Wine and Spirits Consultant of Capital City Package Tyler Kennedy. “It's Derby Day magic and borderline necessary.”
In honor of the Kentucky Derby, Capital City Package announced Derby Day recipes and top shelf bourbon products, like Elijah Craig, 12 year old Bourbon, which gets its name from Reverend Elijah Craig, a Baptist preacher turned capitalist entrepreneur, who claims to have invented Bourbon in the area of Virginia that soon after became the state of Kentucky. He claims to be the first to improve the colorless, un-aged corn distillate of those times into the reddish-brown whiskey we know today through the first use of barrel-aging in charred-oak casks.
In addition to giving consumers tips on the top shelf bourbon brands, Capital City Package advised how to make the perfect mint julep. “All you need is a good amount of fresh mint leaves, some simple syrup or fine grain sugar and high quality bourbon,” says Kennedy.
To honor Cinco de Mayo after Derby Day, Capital City Package is also offering 10% off when patrons buy 3 or more bottles of tequila and 20% off surplus tequila.
