Canal of Suzhou Town, China

This Ancient Water Towns of China trip is a packed, condensed experience to allow guests to see - what we consider - the best of the scenic, old-world Chinese charm, taking in the some of the most picturesque towns of China.

Bangkok, Thailand (PRWEB) January 03, 2013

The scenic three-day / two-night Ancient Water Towns of China trip offers travelers the chance to discover some of the most picturesque canal towns in Eastern China, packed with charming waterway networks that rival the famous Italian city of Venice. Travelers also have the chance to spend time with a bonsai specialist to learn the tricks of the unique art form, visit China’s largest eco forest and soak up the atmosphere in the quaint towns of Wuzhen, Suzhou, and Hangzhou.

Day one of the tour begins in Suzhou, dubbed one of the ‘Venice’s of China’. The beautiful canal town also contains the world-famous Suzhou Gardens which are considered the most stunning in the country. On the first day, Backyard Travel encourage travelers to seize the day and take an early morning guided bike tour around the cobbled, narrow streets lined with white wooden houses adorned with black tile roofs. While visiting, travelers will be guided by a native gardener who will share the secrets of penjing along the way, better known as bonsai.

After visiting the gardens, travelers will then be taken to Wuzhen, another scenic water town with a slightly different style to Suzhou, which exudes old-world Chinese charm and identity, where they will spend the night in a hand-picked hotel.

The next morning of the tailor-made tour is spent at the discretion of travelers as they select their preferred activity from four of Backyard Travel’s unique options. The possibilities are: a tour of the Chinese winery Gongsheng Distillery, followed by a wine tasting session; take in a shadow puppet performance at the Flower Drum Opera; visit the ancestral home of Mao Dun, a famous 20th century writer, critic and journalist; or go to see a printing atelier who will explain the techniques used in the production of traditional Chinese clothing.

The afternoon of day two will then take travelers to Anji County to see the bamboo forest, China’s finest ecotourism destination, which was used as the set for one of the most iconic scenes in the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Travelers will also have the opportunity to visit one of the area’s many tea plantations (Anji County is home to Longjing tea, one of the most expensive teas in the world) and chat with a local tea producer before moving on to Hangzhou, the provincial capital of Zhejiang province.

On the final day of the tour, travelers will be able to explore the town Marco Polo dubbed “Heaven on Earth”. Hangzhou offers something spectacular no matter what the season, and travelers will be guided to explore the regions around the West Lake by a scenic bike ride over stone bridges to islands that dot the lake. The ride will take travelers to Lingyin Monastery, which encompasses a 20-meter-high Buddha statue built from camphor. After exploring the temple travelers are then transferred to Hangzhou train station to take a one-hour train journey to Shanghai where a Backyard Guide will meet and assist them with their onward journey.

“As we continue to expand our trip portfolio of China we’re thrilled we are able to offer travelers authentic experiences to this intriguing destination,” said Backyard Travel’s General Manager Maeve Nolan. “This Ancient Water Towns of China trip is a packed, condensed experience to allow guests to see - what we consider - the best of the scenic, old-world Chinese charm, taking in the some of the most picturesque towns of China.”
