San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) December 16, 2012
Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella injury lawyers today said a study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal on Dec. 3 raises some alarming concerns about the birth control blood clot risk.
According to a Dec. 3, 2012, report in the Reuters about the study, women who have a hormone disorder known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and who use birth control pills have twice the risk of blood clots than do other women who take the Pill.
A 2011 study also published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal linked the birth control pills Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella, which contain drospirenone, to a higher risk of blood clots, according to an article about the study reported in the Globe and Mail of Toronto on Nov. 7, 2011. The blood clot risk is about 3 or 4 in 1,000 for women who take drospirenone-containing birth control pills compared with 1 in 1,000 for women who take birth control pills without drospirenone, according to the Globe and Mail.
“The various studies linking blood clots to certain birth control pills are alarming,” said San Antonio dangerous drug lawyer Jorge Herrera, of The Herrera Law Firm, Inc. “We urge anyone who has experienced adverse birth control side effects such as blood clots or stroke to speak to an attorney about their rights.”
In study published on Nov. 11, 2011, researchers followed contraceptive use among 329,995 Israeli women over a nearly seven-year period. The women who took the drospirenone-containing birth control pills had a higher risk of blood clots, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism than women who took other types of birth control, according to the study.
Birth control pills with drospirenone are relatively new contraceptives. Older birth control pills do not contain drospirenone.
In earlier research, the Food and Drug Administration found that Yaz is linked to a blood clot risk that is higher than older types of birth control, according to a CBS News report in 2011. According to CBS, the study examined women who used Yaz between 2001 and 2007.
