The collaboration between Riza Santos and Yuliana Candra is "meant to be". “I admire Riza's many accomplishments that make her a rare combination of beauty and brain. She is beautiful, smart, and strong. Something that you don't see enough of these days,” Yuliana said. In addition to her Miss World Canada title, Riza is an engineering student and is in the Canadian army reserve, as well as being an accomplished actress, model, and TV host both in Canada and in the Philippines.
“I feel connected to BlacMéra right from the start,” said Riza. “The originality of Yuliana’s masterpieces reflects her true talent, passion, and creativity. She is a devoted world traveler, and you can see the cultural nuances she encountered during her travels in all her designs. Coming from a multicultural background myself, I understand her message.”
These two inspirational women share similar will, passion and vision for the environment, women, and children. They are the next generation philanthropists and social workers. Riza is the founding member and the President of Alberta Coastal Protection Foundation with the goals to provide financial and technical assistance to developing countries towards preservation of coastal regions. She was appointed by the Philippine government as the Ambassador of Tourism and Goodwill for Philippine Tourism Authority. Riza also serves in Youth Advisory Committee of Youth Employment Center and has volunteered in numerous organizations supporting youth programs.
As the newly crowned Miss World Canada Riza dedicated her campaign to raise funds for Variety – The Children Charity which works toward inspiring hope, enriching lives, and building a better future for children who have special needs.
Since launching her couture label BlacMéra over a year ago, Yuliana has pledged to donate 10% of its profits to multiple charitable beneficiaries including Charity Water, UNICEF TAP Project, and Maasai conservation programs in Tanzania. She has personally implemented field programs on location for the Maasai tribe in East Africa, bridging solution gap between the natives and the national government. Yuliana served in the Board of Director for United Nation Association of San Francisco Chapter in 2010, and she is currently serving as UNICEF's ambassador for its TAP Project.
In following her lifelong passion Yuliana is launching the BlacMéra Foundation. Her mission is to provide education for women and children in reviving, preserving and promoting world’s dying arts, while helping them to achieve economic self-sustainability. The first project has been set up in Indonesia to revive the art of fabric painting. Currently Yuliana is working on upcoming projects in Morocco, Brazil, and Tanzania.
The Miss World event in November represents the beginning of a partnership of advocacy for Riza and Yuliana. Together they will combine their joint expression of design, beauty, achievement and passion for the causes that matter to make a positive difference to as many lives as possible. Both talented individuals represent the best of what is possible and serve as an inspiration to young women the world over.
