buildOn launched its Afterschool Service Program in Chicago in 2005. Since then, buildOn Chicago students have contributed hundreds of hours of service each week by tutoring children, feeding the homeless and volunteering at senior citizen homes. Every year, 60 Chicago buildOn students travel to help build schools in some of the poorest countries in the planet, including Haiti, Malawi, Mali, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Senegal.
buildOn programming keeps students safe, engages them academically and develops leadership skills in the vulnerable hours after school. Through buildOn', Chicago students realize their ability to change lives, including their own. With 93 percent of buildOn seniors graduating and going on to college, buildOn is inspiring the Windy City’s next generation of teachers, community activists and business leaders.
"The Annual buildOn Breakfast brings students together from across Chicago to celebrate their amazing accomplishments during the past year and thank those who have given so much to make our programs possible,” said Michael Ziener, buildOn Vice President of Development, Midwest. “There is no better way to start your day than knowing you have impacted a child’s life by attending this event”
