CabForward has been training Ruby on Rails developers since 2011, but this is the first time we have used our collective energy to build a community asset. I hope this effort serves as a model for all professional software developers in Austin.

CabForward, LLC, Austin's first combined Ruby on Rails Training and Software Developer as announced its first Hackathon for the Austin, Texas Ruby on Rails community. The Hackathon brings together CabForward developers and designers with graduates of the Rails Career Rampup course to promote LoneStarRuby 2013. The goal of the project will be to create a user friendly web application in support of LoneStarRuby 2013 in August. This Call for Papers web application will be utilized by developers who want to propose topics for inclusion in the event.
Interested developers can apply via the CabForward website.
The Hackathon takes place from 11 am to 3 pm February 9, 2013 at Mister Tramps in the back room and will be an opportunity for the graduates from the courses to work side by side with senior professionals on a real project. The project is planned to be a web application facilitating the Call For Papers for LSR 2013. A five step process creates a profile and necessary information, then submits to a panel of Ruby experts to choose the presentations for LSR 2013.
