ViewBug and The California Arts Council Collaborate to showcase Public Art in California

When the California Arts Council (CAC) was created in 1975, one of the responsibilities outlined for the agency was….“Provide for the exhibition of art works in public buildings throughout California.” The Art in Public Places photo contest, created in partnership with Viewbug, is one way of bringing awareness to the rich and diverse collection of public art found in virtually every corner of the state.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 13, 2012

When the California Arts Council (CAC) was created in 1975, one of the responsibilities outlined for the agency was….“Provide for the exhibition of art works in public buildings throughout California.” The Art in Public Places photo contest, created in partnership with Viewbug, is one way of bringing awareness to the rich and diverse collection of public art found in virtually every corner of the state.

While in recent years, budget constraints have kept the CAC from fulfilling this original directive, they feel very strongly about showcasing California’s brilliant legacy of art created specifically for public settings…in parks, plazas, buildings and community-gathering spots.

The Art in Public Places photo contest, created in partnership with Viewbug, is one way of bringing awareness to the rich and diverse collection of public art found in virtually every corner of the state.

The California Arts Council believes that with increased public awareness will also come increased public appreciation for these works of art. One of the ongoing challenges for cities, counties and communities is how to maintain and conserve works of public art. The California Arts Council wishes to lend its statewide “voice” to the cause of public art preservation and this photo contest is a reminder of what is at stake.

The winners of the photo contest hosted on ViewBug will receive among other prizes a free webinar attendance with California's Lawyers for the Arts, a non-profit to provide legal services to artists and members of the creative community.

The contest will run until December 2nd, 2012 and the winning photos will be chosen by professional photographer Jared Platt.
