Cemetery.us.org is expanding from its core business of providing cemetery records to help consumers protect themselves from fraud, the company said yesterday.
“This is not only an untapped market; it's a market that can help cut down on crime, which benefits everyone,” a company representative said. “When people lose money to theft, they pass the loss onto consumers in the form of increased prices. We want to cut down on that.”
Cemetery.us.org provides people with information about death records – most often when people want to build their family tree. But, they have since realized that there are other uses for their information, the company said.
“One of the main ways that criminals are able to get jobs at reliable places is by stealing the identity of dead people,” the representative said. “They get an ID made in their name. That way, when they apply for a job at a company they are targeting, their own criminal records won't pop up. Then, they often embezzle from the company and disappear only to try the scam again somewhere else.”
The death records provided by the company can help others avoid that, because they can do a search on a someone and make sure that he is not using the name of a dead person.
“We are also going to build a blog to provide further information to our customers about how this type of fraud occurs and how they can prevent it,” the representative said. “It's just the right thing to do.”
Cemetery.us.org allows families to search cemetery records of deceased relatives. Find names, professions, and other pertinent family history by running a cemetery record report on this reliable resource full of millions of records.
