The Chicago personal injury firm of Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C. is proud to announce the eight winners of the firm’s inaugural Law School Scholarship Essay Contest, which featured a combined total of $5,000 in scholarship money for the winning authors.

The essay contest was open to students ages 18 and older who are currently enrolled in an American Bar Association-approved law school, the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School or any provisionally approved U.S. law school.
The entrants wrote original essays between 750 and 1,500 words on selected motor vehicle accident and cerebral palsy topics. The entrants posted their essays to a website sponsored by their law school or a personal blog or website.
Raina Kelly, a student from Louisiana State University’s Paul Hebert Law Center, won the $2,500 first-place scholarship prize for her essay, “The Inherent Dangers of Semi-Trucks.”
Lynda Weatherford from the Phoenix School of Law won second place with her essay, “Courage Amidst Tragedy,” while Erica Johnson from the Florida A&M College of Law claimed third place with her essay, “Standing Ovation 4 U.” They were awarded scholarships worth $1,500 and $500, respectively.
Five other law students received $100 honorable mention awards for their work. Those students are:
- Sarah Bailey (Regent University School of Law) – “The Story of Me”
- Kevin Ha (University of Minnesota School of Law) – “Preventing Distracted Driving: Can ‘Don’t Text and Drive’ Campaigns Work?”
- John Wendel (Boston College School of Law) – “How Has Cerebral Palsy Impacted Your Life or that of a Loved One?”
- Betsy Noel (Columbia Law School) – “Can Assistive Technology Eliminate Disabilities?”
- Scott Miller (University of Toledo College of Law) – “My Sister Sarah.”
“We are proud to award scholarship funds to these deserving law school students, and we hope that our contest has helped to raise awareness about the impact that car and truck accidents can have on people’s lives as well as the consequences of medical errors that lead to conditions such as cerebral palsy,” Salvi said.
