In addition, as laptops have become more popular, demand for some computer peripheral equipment has declined. Over the five years through 2012, revenue has been growing at an annualized rate of 11.8% to total $167.6 billion, says IBISWorld. Fifteen years ago, computer ownership and usage rates in China were low, and there was little demand for computer peripheral equipment. In 2012, however, imports are set to satisfy almost a third of domestic demand in 2012 with Thailand and South Korea as the main supplying countries.

In the decade through 2007, the Computer Peripheral Manufacturing industry in China developed rapidly as domestic and foreign demand for the industry's products increased. Over the last five years, declining final prices and intense industry competition has contributed to relatively slower industry revenue growth and narrower profit margins. In addition, as laptops have become more popular, demand for some computer peripheral equipment has declined. Over the five years through 2012, revenue has been growing at an annualized rate of 11.8% to total $167.6 billion, says IBISWorld.

International trade is highly important to the Computer Peripheral Manufacturing industry in China, with exports driving the industry's development over the past decade. Exports accounted for over 95% of industry revenue in 1998, compared to about 40% in 2012, largely due to surging domestic demand. Fifteen years ago, computer ownership and usage rates in China were low, and there was little demand for computer peripheral equipment. Imports are set to satisfy almost a third of domestic demand in 2012 with Thailand and South Korea as the main supplying countries.

The industry concentration level is low, with the top four computer peripheral equipment manufacturers, LG Enterprises, TPV Technology, Chi Mei Optoelectronics and Seagate Group, accounting for just over a quarter of total industry revenue in 2012. The concentration level is expected to increase, as revenue from companies with core technologies and high-tech products rises. As laptops become more pervasive, IBISWorld anticipates that LCD monitors will lose industry market share. Manufacturers of memory bars and hard drives will likely see stable revenue growth as long as they can adjust their policies to adopt new technology changes, such as solid-state drives (SSDs), new generation memory and other peripheral computer equipment.
