All of our corals are bought from respectable wholesalers who already have a complex quarantine regiment.
Newburgh, NY (PRWEB) May 07, 2013
Orange County Corals of New York attended its first frag swap organized by Manhattan Reefs on April 28th, 2013.
The annual frag swap was held at PACE University’s Downtown Campus in New York City. Nearly 500 attendees were at the event. Guest speakers included Dr. Craig Bingman who spoke about ‘Reef Chemistry 201- Practical Answers to Difficult Questions. Tony Vargas spoke of ‘Successful Reef Aquariums from Around the World.”
“This was our company’s first major event,” says Aniello "Neil" Sabatino, owner of Orange County Corals of New York. “We had a full display of our corals and met many different vendors. We also had many reefers approach us regarding not only the corals we had on hand, but also with questions regarding the lighting (LEDs) we use to propagate our corals. The event also had fragging demonstrations that taught the proper way to frag corals. Participants were allowed to keep the specimens they fragged.”
A “frag” is a small piece or colony of coral, often mounted on an artificial plug, which aquarium owners can add to their saltwater aquariums to grow and multiply. Frag swaps are a way to bring together local reefers to trade and share passion for their hobby. Both coral and dry goods were offered from a variety of sellers at the swap.
Having launched OCCofNY.com in 2013, this was the first major industry event attended by the company.
“All of our corals are bought from respectable wholesalers who already have a complex quarantine regiment,” says Sabatino. “We supplement this with our own in house screening and observation of new corals. Only the healthiest are offered for sale.”
Sabatino adds, “Being green is a big part of our philosophy too. And it goes hand in hand with sustainable reef keeping. Technology is a friend both to the well-being of the animals we keep as well as for our own survival.”
Orange County Corals of New York will attend the next swap which will be held on June 15th at the New Jersey Convention and Expo Center in Edison, NJ. This event is sponsored by the New Jersey Reefers Club.
