Dr. Allen J. Rosenthal, an endodontic specialist and founding partner of the Advanced Endodontics and Microsurgery (AEM) will be volunteering his services to the Connecticut Mission of Mercy (CTMOM) for the third year. This year’s CTMOM clinic is scheduled to take place June 7 and 8 at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport.

Since 2008, CTMOM has been offering free dental care to the underserved and uninsured in Connecticut. The two-day clinic is sponsored by the Connecticut Foundation for Dental Outreach (CDFO) in collaboration with the Connecticut State Dental Association (CSDA), and provides much-needed dental care to those who would otherwise be unable to afford it.

“Research shows that good dental care is essential to good nutrition and better overall health, which is why the CTMOM program is vital to the well-being of Connecticut residents,” said Dr. Rosenthal. “It’s a privilege to be able to volunteer my services to relieve the suffering of those who cannot afford regular dental care, and to promote wellness among my neighbors.”

In 2012, the CTMOM clinic in Danbury brought together 1,715 volunteers who were able to provide services to provide free oral health care services to 2,008 patients. The dental services provided during the two-day free clinic were valued at $1,300,000.

Dr. Rosenthal is a specialist in endodontics, which deals with the soft tissue surrounding the teeth and the tooth pulp. Endodontics is commonly referred to as “root canal therapy,” and Dr. Rosenthal notes that while dentists handle routine care, endodontic specialists can address more complex oral care issues.

“Being able to volunteer for CTMOM will give me an opportunity to work with patients who may need a root canals or more advanced care,” Rosenthal added. “Lack the insurance shouldn’t prevent anyone from getting the care they need to relieve pain and prevent future complications.”
