The Onder Law Firm, attorneys handling medical device and pharmaceutical injury claims nationwide, has just created a website devoted to providing information about Intuitive Surgical, Inc.'s da Vinci Surgical System and claims against the company over complications occurring during surgical procedures in which the da Vinci robot was used. The firm's da Vinci surgery injury attorneys are investigating claims of injury and complications after having a surgery such as a hysterectomy or prostrate removal.     Surgical robots have been used to varying degrees since the 1980's, with a rare presence in heart surgery since the late 1990's, but became much more widely used in recent years with the Intuitive Surgical da Vinci Surgical System, which has been approved by the FDA for surgeries such as hysterectomy, prostrate and mitral valve heart surgery.

A 2011 article in the Los Angeles Times questioning the benefits of robotic surgery quoted a surgeon at the John Hopkins University School of Medicine as saying "there's never been a study showing clinical superiority." (articles.latimes.com/2011/oct/17/health/la-he-robotic-surgery-20111017) There have been a number of da Vinci surgery robot lawsuits in recent months (Superior Court of Washington, No. 09-2-03136-5; United States District Court, Northern District of Alabama, Case 7:12-cv-01082-LSC) after severe complications were encountered during prostrate removal and hysterectomy surgeries were performed using the da Vinci Surgical System. The da Vinci lawsuits allege that the surgeons using the robot are not trained to acceptable standards and that Intuitive Surgical, Inc., the manufacturer of the da Vinci Surgical System, has over-promoted the benefits of the da Vinci system, that it has certain design defects that increase the chances of complications during surgery and the company does not provide adequate warnings to physicians or patients regarding these risks.

The Onder Law Firm, a prominent national law firm with a long history of representing clients harmed by dangerous drugs and defective medical devices, welcomes surgical robot lawsuit inquiries from law firms in regards to handling them or working as co-counsel.
