Dallas, TX (PRWEB) March 20, 2013
The Hackney Plastic Surgery Center of Dallas, TX, has announced that it is now using the TouchMD system in many of its patient consultations. An innovative patient education tool, TouchMD combines touchscreen, video, and Web technology to help patients gain a better understanding of their surgery.
“We are really excited about TouchMD, and it has gotten a great response from our patients,” says Dr. Fred Hackney, head of the Hackney Plastic Surgery Center.
Dr. Hackney uses TouchMD as an electronic chalkboard during a patient’s consultation. By displaying patient photos on a large screen TV, Dr. Hackney can sketch on an iPad linked to the TV to illustrate aspects of the patient’s case. For example, in a consultation on breast augmentation, he can highlight asymmetry in the patient’s breasts, or indicate the incision points that will be made during surgery.
“TouchMD is especially good for tummy tuck consultations, where I can use its anatomical diagrams to explain how the muscles are tightened and skin is removed during the procedure,” says Dr. Hackney.
After the consultation, patients can review their information online through a secure web portal that includes their photos and other information, including patient education videos and before/after photo galleries. This allows the patient to review materials and ask question later on, not just during the consultation.
“We recognize that patients have a lot of information coming at them during their consultation,” says Dr. Hackney. “It can be a lot to absorb.”
Allowing patients to review their consultation securely from home gives them time to fully understand their procedure and ask additional questions. It also allows them to share their consultation with a spouse, family member or friend, bringing them into loop.
“It’s a better experience for our patients,” says Dr. Hackney, “And a better educated patient is usually a happier patient.”
TouchMD is a part of Dr. Hackney’s commitment to staying in the forefront of plastic surgery.
“Most of the time when we talk keeping up with the latest developments in plastic surgery, we’re talking about surgical procedures,” says Dr. Hackney, “But it’s also important to tap technology that helps us do a better job communicating with patients.”
