The Drupal Goals module gives website owners the ability to customize game-like rewards based on a website owner’s business rules
Portland, OR (PRWEB) March 29, 2013
Duo Consulting Director of Development Scott Weston will present a session on gamification, one of this year’s hottest website development trends, at DrupalCon 2013 in Portland, Oregon. His talk “Games People Play (And The Modules That Enable Them)” addresses how Drupal social websites use engagement tactics to encourage interaction. Weston earned the coveted speaking slot via a rigorous process of self-nomination and Drupal community evaluation and selection.
Developed and supported by Weston, Drupal’s “Goals” is a modular set of functionality that extends the core functionality of the Drupal content management system. It gives website owners the ability to customize game-like rewards based on a website owner’s business rules. Released in late 2012, the free contributed module is already being used by 17 Drupal websites.
User engagement has become a primary metric of website effectiveness. Many marketers and website administrators believe offering rewards such as points and badges will 'gamify' their site and automatically increase user engagement. Weston has raised the stakes by enabling a more complex set of actions to achieve these rewards based on the website’s objectives.
Weston’s presentation will:
- Explore people's motivation for participating in a game
- Look at strategies for implementing a successful gamification system
- Cover Drupal tools for developing effective website interaction
- Include a step-by-step demonstration of getting started using the Goals and Rules modules.
Taking place May 20-24 at the Oregon Convention Center, DrupalCon Portland is expected to be one of the largest gathering of Drupal developers, marketers and business professionals. Additionally, the conference will bridge other open source and web communities, co-locating with two other long-standing conferences: Symfony Live and WebVisions.
