On April 8th, Dubai LASIK surgeon Dr. Farooq Ashraf of the Atlanta Vision Clinic announced his reaction about the recent major sandstorm that has affected many people in Dubai, UAE. According to Arabia MSN and the Khaleej Times, the sandstorm that swept across Dubai and Abu Dhabi caused high wind speeds that resulted in sand particles in people's faces, specifically the eye regions. According to Dr. Ashraf, sand in the eyes can lead to scratched corneas and potential vision damage.

“It’s important to always protect your eyes during a sandstorm, since the sand can easily get into the eyes and potentially damage them,” says Dr. Ashraf of the Atlanta Vision Clinic for LASIK surgery in Dubai. “A corneal abrasion or an infection can easily occur. My recommendation is to always remove your contact lenses during a sandstorm and wear protective glasses." To learn more about the sandstorm in Dubai, visit
