There are significant productivity benefits to e-recording as it relates to our staff. This office handled over 70,000 mortgage and mortgage-related transactions last year, so moving even some of that to paperless is huge in terms of efficiency.
ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. (PRWEB) June 19, 2013
Erie County has initiated electronic recording (e-recording) of land documents with Simplifile, the nation’s largest e-recording service provider. With this new capability to e-record, customers have a faster, more efficient option for recording documents, such as mortgages, with the clerk’s office while reducing paper, postage fees, and other expenses.
“This e-recording technology will save time, paper and money for both the person closing on the mortgage and for the government responsible for the recording,” said Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs. “There are significant productivity benefits to e-recording as it relates to our staff. This office handled over 70,000 mortgage and mortgage-related transactions last year, so moving even some of that to paperless is huge in terms of efficiency.”
Jacobs also believes larger financial institutions will be the first to take advantage of the newly available service.
“E-Recording is the norm in most other states around the country, so national organizations that are very familiar with this technology will e-record with us immediately,” said Jacobs.
There are currently more than 915 recording jurisdictions throughout the nation that have started e-recording with Simplifile, and that number continues to increase every week.
“We’re excited to be working with Erie County and providing this technology to the thousands of local and national submitters who are equally anxious to begin sending documents to the clerk’s office electronically,” said Paul Clifford, president of Simplifile.
According to Jacobs, the clerk’s office is currently accepting mortgage and mortgage-related documents for e-recording and will accept deeds and associated documents soon.
“Once we accept both deeds and mortgages, Erie County residents closing or refinancing a home will no longer need to come to Erie County Hall to do so,” said Jacobs.
Erie County is the sixth county in the state of New York to adopt e-recording after Westchester, Rockland, Oneida, Livingston, and Washington counties.
