Doctors Health Press Releases Statement on Eye Health in Honor of UV Awareness Month

Here’s What Happens When You Don’t Shield Your Eyes from the Sun.

(PRWEB) May 09, 2013

Doctors Health Press, a division of Lombardi Publishing Corporation and publisher of various natural health newsletters, books, and reports, including the popular online Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin, recently released a statement addressing the risks of UV radiation and eye health, in honor of UV Awareness Month.

As Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin (http://www.doctorshealthpress.com/vision-articles/heres-what-happens-when-you-dont-shield-your-eyes-from-the-sun) notes, with summer coming, it’s important to remind readers of the threats that UV radiation poses, and that it’s vital to remember
that it’s not just the skin that reacts to the sun’s radiation; the eyes do, too.

As the article “Here’s What Happens When You Don’t Shield Your Eyes from the Sun” reports, studies have shown that exposure to UV radiation can damage your eyes, and this damage can actually take many forms.

The Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin article outlines some conditions that people might not know about when it comes to UV radiation and eye health, including photokeratitis (when your eye suffers a burn from UVB rays), erythema of the eyelid (redness of the eyelids), cataracts (clouding of the eye’s natural lens), solar retinopathy (a condition that develops from prolonged exposure to sunlight or bright lights), and retinal damage.

Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin concludes the article by nothing the precautions to take to eliminate the threat of exposure to UV radiation to the eyes, stating that it’s important to wear sunglasses that: protect your eyes, including your peripheral vision; filter out 99% to 100% of UV rays; fit properly and don’t cause any discomfort; allow you to see natural colors, rather than distorted colors; and are anti-glare.
