Riverside, CA (PRWEB) April 07, 2013

Gopher season begins in March for Riverside and by April it is in full force. Rodent Guys Gopher Extermination Company is expecting an expansion in population of gophers this year. The expected gopher population expansion is because of new regulations dis-allowing using the efficient poisons previously used by qualified pros.

The new regulations are two fold because the most effective product has been banned and the second most effective is no longer manufactured. Fumitoxin is no longer permitted for applications on residential properties. This chemical comes in dry tabs that when placed in the ground and react with water, will release phosphine gas. This deadly gas is extremely toxic and a very effective chemical.

The federal ban has disallowed the use of Fumitoxin for any home and for commercial and agricultural applications it is illegal for use within 100 feet of any structure. Fumitoxin can be legally used at golf courses, cemeteries, or athletic fields; but, this poison cannot be used within 100 feet of any structure, including pump houses, bathrooms, or neighboring property buildings even unoccupied structures like dog houses.

Pest control professionals did have another poison similar to that available to homeowners but 3.5 times more potent. The poison was strychnine which is obtainable by homeowners at 0.5% strength. Up until recently a licensed operator could buy 1.8% which worked much better. Because of a worldwide shortage of strychnine this is no longer available. Now even qualified professionals can only get non-licensed strength poison which has low effectiveness.

Rodent Guys states the gopher situation is getting worse. The less efficient poisons are creating a problem for extermination companies to gain control of burrowing pests on properties. The obtainable poisons are not gaining the control levels and the gopher populations are increasing. Many pest control companies have stopped offering gopher control because they cannot keep clients happy under the new laws.

Rodent Guys claims they have had to change their methods all together and rarely use poisons at all. The techniques now involve carbon monoxide gas and traps. Owner of Rodent Guys, Nick Nielsen, says he likes trapping because outside of Fumitoxin it is the most effective method. Carbon Monoxide gas is utilized in their new methods which increases the effectiveness and helps to eliminate babies in the nest as well.

Rodent Guys thinks they will be among the few gopher service companies to be around because they strive to continue to update their methodology and evolve with the changing laws.
