Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) April 08, 2013
Eighteen months after launching the Grandeur Peak Funds, Grandeur Peak Global Advisors announced today that it will soft close both the Grandeur Peak Global Opportunities Fund and the Grandeur Peak International Opportunities Fund on May 1, 2013. The Funds will remain open to existing investors, but will no longer accept new shareholders after May 1, 2013. Financial advisors and retirement plans with clients in either Fund will be able to continue investing in that Fund for existing as well as new clients.
Robert Gardiner, CEO, and Blake Walker, CIO, have been long-time advocates of tightly capping assets in their small and micro cap portfolios. Mr. Gardiner stated, “To be good small and micro cap investors it’s critical to limit your assets. Through my career I have seen time and again small cap managers who became a victim of their own success by taking in too many assets and seeing their performance languish. We founded Grandeur Peak to be a world-class global small and micro cap manager, and to help us achieve this mission we are committed to remaining small & nimble.”
Among the short list of other global small cap and international small cap mutual funds available, there are very few managers truly committed to small/micro space. Most are, or have become, midcap products. Grandeur Peak believes there is a truly unique investment opportunity in global small and micro cap companies, but it takes a significant commitment in resources and discipline to analyze the universe of over 30,000 companies. With the cost and effort to do this work, and limited revenue potential for managers who cap their assets appropriately, few managers have chosen to pursue this compelling segment.
President, Eric Huefner discussed the firm’s vision, saying: “In founding Grandeur Peak we laid out a product roadmap for the global small cap space. There are 6-7 strategies that we would ultimately like to manage within this arena. Given the expected overlap of our portfolios, it is important to look at capacity constraints at the firm level, as well as at the individual portfolio level. We are soft closing the Global Opportunities and International Opportunities portfolios around $400M and $300M respectively not because we are already feeling a capacity pinch, but because we want to make sure to leave room for existing shareholders to continue investing, for potential growth from performance, and for the future small and micro cap funds that we intend to launch.”

The objective of both the Grandeur Peak Global Opportunities Fund and the Grandeur Peak International Opportunities Fund is long-term growth of capital. These funds have limited operating history.
