Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) April 04, 2013
Nationally renowned science-fiction author Alan Dean Foster will help celebrate the opening of the new Library in the Integrated Education Building at GateWay Community College as part of National Library Week, April 14-20.
On April 18, Foster will read from his works, discuss his creative process and the influences libraries have had on his life, and take audience questions, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., in the Copper Room/IE1302 at GateWay Community College.
Following Foster’s presentation, a meet & greet and book signing will be held in the Library patio until 11:30 a.m. Tours of the new Library also will be provided.
Foster has authored hundreds of scripts and novels, including well-known works such as “Star Trek”, “Star Wars”, “Alien”, “The Thing”, “Transformers”, “Terminator: Salvation” and “Chronicles of Riddick”. His short stories have appeared in sci-fi magazines.
His works have been translated into more than 50 languages and have won awards in Spain and Russia. His novel “Cyber Way” won the Southwest Book Award for Fiction in 1990, the first work of science-fiction ever to do so. He is the recipient of the Faust, the International Association of Media Tie-in Writers lifetime achievement award.
Currently, Foster appears on The Science Channel mini-series “Alien Abductions 2”. And his next book out is “Star Trek Into Darkness”, the book version of the movie, due for release in May.
The event is free and open to the community and is presented by GateWay Community College’s Library, Division of Liberal Arts, Center for Student Life & Leadership, as well as Northern Arizona University.
