iCharts, Inc., a cloud-based interactive charting platform announces the launch of Elections 2012, a curated ChartChannel dedicated to showcasing the U.S. political scene via data-driven stories in short-form charts.

Elections 2012, live through November, is an online documentary of trending stats and stories for a defining moment in political history. Data sources include Experian Marketing Services - Hitwise and Simmons – from which weekly charts are crafted to highlight online keyword search term trends, candidate website traffic sources, and search share by candidate. Peoplebrowsr, another Silicon Valley based company, will power charts via APIs to spotlight social analytics including daily Twitter mention trends and standouts regarding online influentials that create and accelerate political conversations.

“We are delighted to partner with iCharts to create real-time social data visualizations around this year’s election,” says Jodee Rich, CEO, PeopleBrowsr. “Our work with iCharts is another example of how PeopleBrowsr’s Datamine and APIs provide developers with easy access to real-time and historic social data to power applications and drive insights from social media.”

Other charts available to the public will include poll results from open data sources Pew, Gallup and Real Clear Politics. Adhoc charts from major news outlets will also be regularly crafted to condense long-form stories with data rich insights into charts that can be easily shared and re-distributed across the social ecosystem.

“The U.S. Elections and the use of visual data is a powerful example of how data-driven storytelling is changing the way journalists and bloggers produce content,” says Seymour Duncker, CEO and Co-Founder at iCharts. “We’re thrilled to have an opportunity to play an active role in this Election, as a platform for creating and sharing these stories and as a destination of valuable information for active and non-active voters around the world who are tracing milestones from the campaign trail to Election Day.”
