Instant People Check Sees a Sharp Increase in Social Security Inaccuracies

Instant People Check, LLC, a criminal background checking company since 2002, reports a 15% increase in fraudulent Social Security checks over the last few months.

With a Social Security Check, individuals may discover an unknown name tied to their number.

According to David Moulder, co-owner of Instant People Check, LLC, “In recent months, we have seen an approximate 15% increase in Social Security background checks with negative or inaccurate results.”

Based on their search results, Instant People Check believes there may be an increase of fraud involving Social Security Numbers. Some Social Security checks will turn up a name that is entirely different than the legitimate owner. Moulder states, “This could indicate a possibility of attempted identity theft or someone trying to hide negative information from their past.” When this occurs, the business or employer that placed the order is notified that the results do not match the name of their applicant.

There have been recent stories that have made national headlines where individuals were fired or denied employment due to inaccurate criminal background checks. “It’s not a perfect system, but most records are accurate. The negative results are sometimes due to a lack of due diligence and exactness in the criminal background check ordering and analysis process,” says Moulder.

Instant People Check’s service, the NationwidePlus, offers consumers and businesses one of the most complete criminal background checks available on the Internet. In addition to its popular National Instant Background Check, the NationwidePlus adds a Social Security Verification and federal check. This service can help strengthen the accuracy of a background check.

Social Security data from the Social Security Administration is not available to businesses. However, credit information does contain a Social Security number, which Instant People Check can access. Moulder explains, “the information from Social Security Verifications have been extremely beneficial to potential employers. The data helps to verify the name on the background check. Also, our NationwidePlus has uncovered Social Security data that was stolen, falsified and used from deceased persons. People using this service were also alerted to identity theft as other names were attached to their Social Security number.”

Instant People Check recommends that individuals check their own Social Security Number, especially if they notice negative marks on their credit report or perhaps receive a call from a collection agency regarding a debt that they know nothing about. Moulder adds, “With a Social Security Check, individuals may discover an unknown name tied to their number."

Since 2002, Instant People Check, LLC has provided individuals and businesses with thousands of extensive background checks from one of the most comprehensive databases in the industry. They have over a billion searchable criminal records that are available.
