In “A Midnight Trade” Wise tells the story of a young woman’s journey to save her fiancé who has been kidnapped and thrown into a U.S. established prison as an accused terrorist.

Janet Wise found herself in a unique position post-9/11. Due to her work in international development, Wise lived in the Middle East for eight years during the first decade of the 21st century, witnessing first-hand the effects of the War in Afghanistan. In her new novel, “A Midnight Trade” (published by iUniverse), Wise weaves a rousing exploration of unbridled aggression into a study of the inclusiveness of humanity and the transcendent power of the pursuit of life and liberty.

About Afghanistan and the spark that led her to her newest work, Wise says this: “I saw how rapidly a country could shift from being proud of its governance by rule of law, to becoming a country stripped of its heritage of civilizing law through propagandized fear of terrorism. I knew I had to provide focus and truth through story. Fiction can give shape, eliminating some of the clutter around the edges so that we can see what’s happening more clearly. Fiction personalizes it.”

In “A Midnight Trade”, Wise tells the story of a young woman’s journey to save her fiancé who has been kidnapped and thrown into a U.S. established prison as an accused terrorist. Simultaneously, Sara’s father, a renowned biogenetics research scientist, has disappeared and is believed to be murdered over his ground-breaking research on immunity to anthrax. Sara turns to homicide detective and former Delta Force Operative Will Howling to help with the impossible: spring Sara’s fiancé from a lawless prison in a war zone and find her father’s murderer.

“‘A Midnight Trade’ plots thrilling story and tension against facts,” states Wise. “It personalizes the impact of torture, and corporate corruption for profit, at the country’s expense.”
