Rapper, Jay Blaze puts a new spin on an industry classic. “We invented the V-mix” takes the approach Diddy achieved through the remix and pulls it into the digital era.
Diddy released “We invented the Remix” in 2002, an album that went Platinum. Along those same lines, 50 Cent is often credited for inventing the mixtape. 50 Cent made a name for himself by taking hit songs and adding his own freestyle to them. Now, Jay Blaze has taken that to a whole new level by creating what he calls a V-mix. V-mix (short for video remix) is the addition of both audio and visual elements to another artist’s music video. The first V-mix Jay Blaze will release, from the “We Invented the V-Mix” mixtape, is Usher’s “Scream.” Jay Blaze explains, “The song is HOT at the moment, and I felt it needed a rapper on it.”
When asked his motivation behind the inception of the V-mix Jay Blaze says, “I created the V-mix to give something new and creative to the fans before my single comes out, also to inspire other artists to make their own V-mixes as well. Nowadays, the major way to market yourself is on the internet, and visuals are essential. Anyone can do a V-Mix, just grab a camera, shoot your version and edit it into the original video.”
Jay Blaze is also quick to credit Diddy and 50 Cent as the inspirations behind this idea. “Diddy is one of the main reasons I got into the music business, when everyone was going right he was also going left. When 50 cent came in the game, he introduced the idea of Branding in a whole new way. Both of them influenced me with their ability to be innovative and ground breaking.” Fans of Jay Blaze can be on the lookout for new V-mixes throughout October as well as check out “Universal Man” on iTunes.
