Greater Houston Healthconnect provides a tool for enhancing the continuity of care we so highly value in our organization.
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) February 20, 2013
Recognized for more than 60 years as one of Houston’s leading group practices, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic has joined Greater Houston Healthconnect, adding enhanced geographic coverage for one of the nation’s largest patient health information networks. Greater Houston Healthconnect became operational just one year ago and has contracted with more than 3,200 physicians and area hospital systems to share secure patient records electronically.
Dr. Spencer Berthelsen, KSC’s chairman of the board of managers, who has been with the clinic since 1980, remarked on the significance of this decision, “Our goal is to deliver the most advanced medical care with personalized attention. Greater Houston Healthconnect provides a tool for enhancing the continuity of care we so highly value in our organization. With more complete information about our patients we can better manage and follow-up on critical events in their treatment.”
Kelsey-Seybold Clinic operates clinics in 20 locations across five counties in the Greater Houston area. These clinics care for almost 500,000 patients with a team of more than 370 physicians representing more than 55 specialties. Kelsey-Seybold was recently recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as the nation’s first accredited Accountable Care Organization (ACO).
For Healthconnect, Kelsey-Seybold’s leadership as an early adopter in the system has a great impact on the development of the network. “We truly value Kelsey-Seybold’s participation as a leader in the medical community,” noted Bernard A. Harris, Jr. M.D., vice chairman of the Healthconnect Board. “Their presence will help us to accelerate adoption among other major group practices and create considerable momentum. Our goal is to connect at least 50 percent of all physicians in our service area by 2017.” With Kelsey’s addition to the network, nearly 25 percent of all area physicians are officially participating in varying stages of implementation.
Health system adoption continues to progress as well and three hospitals are in varying stages of data testing and implementation. Updates about additional health systems are imminent.
