The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training participants meaningfully contribute to the fight against blood cancers. Jim Alfieri is just one example of such a participant. He began his Team In Training (TNT) journey in June 2000 when he completed the Mayor’s Marathon in Alaska In honor of his brother-in-law, John Duff and team Honoree, Josh Gernert. He enjoyed his experience so much, he went on to support and participate in every TNT fundraising season for the past 12 years. Thanks to his efforts, he has raised nearly $50,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Jim will surpass the $50,000 mark by participating in the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in Washington D.C. This event was recently added to the TNT lineup and, serendipitously, falls on a momentous occasion for Jim. 50 years ago, Jim married his wife Janet and the couple honeymooned together in Washington D.C. The couple plan to return there for both a celebratory anniversary vacation and a half marathon.

Since his first experience with TNT, Jim has relentlessly lent his time and expertise to
the Redwood Wine Country Team In Training marathon teams training in the North Bay. In addition to completing over 20 full marathons and 25 half marathons over the past 12 years, Jim also serves as a mentor, captain, and a general “go-to” for his Team In Training group.

Jim has participated in each Team In Training season with only a brief break in 2011 to undergo treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The lymphoma cleared up and in 2012, Jim completed both the Mayor’s Half Marathon and the San Mateo Half Marathon. Currently, Jim is a Team Captain and Honored Teammate for Team In Training in the Redwood Wine Country Region.
