San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) January 13, 2011

Menuism.com, the Web's largest aggregator of restaurant menus, today launched its Feeding Hunger campaign in a joint effort with the San Francisco Food Bank. For every new Facebook fan Menuism earns between today and February 28th, the foodie-focused social network will donate $1 to the San Francisco Food Bank. For every dollar donated, the San Francisco Food Bank will be able to provide $6 worth of food to the hungry.

"Food can be luxurious, but it shouldn't be a luxury. One of our New Year's resolutions is to help the San Francisco Food Bank get a head start on reaching their goal of alleviating hunger among the neediest populations in San Francisco and Marin in 2011," said Menuism co-founder John Li.

The San Francisco Food Bank provides food to approximately 197,000 people with a two-pronged approach: direct-to-consumer neighborhood food pantries, and in partnership with the more than 400 nonprofit agencies that help deliver food to those in need. Some of the largest meal programs in San Francisco depend on the San Francisco Food bank for the bulk of the food they serve. The Food Bank also supports public schools and citywide disaster relief programs, and at-risk individuals including low-income seniors, pregnant women, women with infants, and young children.

"We chose the San Francisco Food Bank because of their ability to feed so many so efficiently, and because they believe in providing healthy, nutritious foods to populations in need--not just cheap food with empty calories. Over 50 percent of the food the San Francisco Food Bank distributes is fresh produce," added co-founder Justin Chen.

Combining a social network with an educational blog for foodies that launched in mid-2010, Menuism relies on user-generated content to connect foodies across North America, and strives to bolster conversation among this passionate segment.

Harnessing the power of the social Web, Menuism hopes to raise money for the San Francisco Food Bank while expanding its fan base. The promotion runs through the end of February. To donate to the San Francisco Food Bank, "like" Menuism on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/Restaurant.Reviews.
