In November, Monte da Quinta resort in the Algarve region of Portugal will be hosting the R2P – Race to Portugal event. The participants will play two days of competitive golf at the famous Quinta do Lago Golf Club, against other qualifying clubs from Ireland and the UK.
An exclusive number of Golf clubs from all over the UK and Ireland have been chosen by the resort to compete, and if they win at home, they will travel to sunny Portugal to compete on Monte da Quinta’s luxury world class golf course.
Each club will participate in separate competitions for ladies and men, which will be played in advance on their own home courses. The winner of each competition will qualify, and win the privilege to travel to Portugal to compete in the Monte da Quinta Trophy Cup. The winners will also receive a seven night stay at the Monte da Quinta Suites, a prime example of high quality accommodation.
The participants will play two days of competitive golf at the famous Quinta do Lago Golf Club, against other qualifying clubs from Ireland and the UK. They will first compete in a qualifier, which will be a four ball better ball, and the winning pair from this game will represent their Club at the final.
The Monte da Quinta Resort is one of the most high class golf course resorts in Europe, and a sought after dream destination for discerning golfers all over the world. It is opposite the 18th fairway of Quinto de Lago, a breathtaking premium golf course located in Faro, Portugal. This course, designed by William Mitchell and opened in 1974, has won international acclaim, being rated within the top 20 courses in Europe. The open design of the course allows the golfer the flexibility to approach the greens in a wide variety of ways. The most famous hole is the 15th, which provides a great challenge: a successful shot must travel 200m over a lake and onto the green, which is surrounded by pine trees!
There is a wide range of styles of accommodation at the resort, including ‘The Suites’, which is a 130 room apartment and hotel opened in 2008, and ‘The Monte da Quinta Club’, which is a community of private luxury villas and townhouses built in 2005.
Monte da Quinta can be found in the Algarve region of Portugal, a truly desirable location that has been popular with tourists for many years. The figures show that it is the most visited part of all Portugal, and every year thousands and thousands of tourist flock to this area in southern Portugal to relax in the sun, sand, history and culture of this European paradise. This area is rich with the historical remains of ancient cultures, such as the Phoenicians, Romans, and Visigoths, and the golden sand beaches and steep cliff faces are a dramatic yet peaceful backdrop for a picnic or a sunbathe on the coast.
The Algarve region is home to many of the most prestigious resorts and hotels in the world, where hospitality becomes a highly refined art form, and your every need is attended to with style and class. For example, the Monte da Quinta Suites offer residents a diverse choice of restaurants and bars, a spa and a health club featuring the services of a personal trainer, and a Kids Club with a babysitting service for families.
The Race to Portugal is not the only tournament that Quinta do Lago has held. The golf course has been host to the Portuguese Open eight times, and is the venue for several other national and international tournaments, such as the 2010 Financial Times Business Championship Grand Finals. The resort intends to make The Race to Portugal an annual event, and is already beginning to plan the 2011 tournament.
