Costa Mesa, CA (PRWEB) January 12, 2013

Close to 40 employees of Morgan Drexen (http://morgandrexen.com) extended their arms for a worthwhile cause, donating much-needed blood to the American Red Cross. The organization’s “blood mobile” spent Friday, January 11, parked in front of the company’s Costa Mesa headquarters – and business was brisk. Generous employees spent the day filing in and out of the mobile laboratory to help boost the blood supply. The Red Cross says more than 44,000 blood donations are needed every day in the United States, and keeping up with the demand is a perpetual effort.

“We recently got a call from the Red Cross saying their supply of blood is at its lowest level in 15-years,” explains Walter Ledda, CEO of Morgan Drexen. “We rallied the troops. Morgan Drexen is about helping people, and this fits right into one of our most important values: Charity. I’m absolutely proud. It’s another great day for Morgan Drexen.”

The blood type most often requested by hospitals is Type O, but right now, the Red Cross reports a shortage of Type O-negative and B-negative. Blood donations are used by a wide variety of people including emergency room patients, cancer patients and those suffering from sickle cell disease. More than five million patients receive donated blood in the United States every year.

Morgan Drexen employee Andrew Rivera said of his blood donation, “It was great, it was easy, it was relatively pain-free. I feel like I did a good deed that will benefit a lot of people.”

The Red Cross says one donation can help save the lives of up to three people! Donated red blood cells don’t last long – they have a shelf life of up to 42 days. For this reason, the American Red Cross is constantly seeking donations. For more information on donating blood, visit redcrossblood.org.
