Alex Dobson, a talented singer-songwriter based in Northeast England, is quickly becoming a favorite on the BEAT100 Original Music Video Chart this week for his music video release of original song ‘Kites’. Filmed on a beautiful winter day in Castle Eden, United Kingdom, ‘Kites’ transports BEAT100 users to charming English countryside roads as Dobson sings: “Let’s tie our hearts to kites and let them float away.” “I have been writing songs for years now,” says Alex Dobson, “I probably have hundreds of documents filled with lyrics on my phone, computer, and notepad.” Since his recent entrance into the BEAT100 charts, ‘Kites’ has resulted in Dobson’s reception of BEAT100 Gold Song and Favorite awards, along with Silver Video status.

Following over a year of solo performance experience, Dobson released ‘Kites’ as an inspirational message to listeners. “The song idea came from my sister,” says Dobson. “I am very close with her and [‘Kites’] is my message to her to always look for something better, not just in relationships, but in life.” Dobson’s performance and lyrics in ‘Kites’ is both soothing and emotional, while providing a message that is open for listeners to establish their own interpretation. “It’s always nice to let people interpret the song in their own way and relate it to things that may have happened to them,” says Dobson.

Not only is he a skilled singer-songwriter, but Alex Dobson is also a proficient teacher at The Northern School of Music in Hartlepool. “It’s so fulfilling to teach, I really enjoy it,” says Dobson. Alex began the job two years ago and teaches one-on-one lessons for singing and guitar. “I meet really talented and nice people all the time,” he remarks. “That’s more than enough to get out of a job.”

As fans anxiously await more music following ‘Kites’, Dobson recently announced that his first EP, ‘Count to Four’, is set for release on April 8 on iTunes and Amazon. In celebration of the album, Dobson will perform in London during the EP release week, including a show at Café 1001 on Brick Lane, and is planning a big launch party at The Cluny in Newcastle on April 12. The album promises to provide listeners with many more emotional and high quality songs from this up-and-coming singer-songwriter.

Looking into the future, Dobson hopes to begin touring outside of England while sharing his music on a larger scale. “Mainly, I’d love for people to enjoy my music and get something out of it, the way I do with artists I love,” says Dobson. Meanwhile, fans have much to look forward to, with Dobson’s upcoming EP release and tour dates, including a performance at the upcoming Generators Evolution Emerging festival in Northern England. “[I love] how live bands can create an atmosphere so powerful that you kind of forget everything else going on around you,” says Dobson, “Music inspires me because everything that happens in my everyday life I can put into song [and] it feels natural!”
