New Infographic Shows That the Thunder Beat the Heat in NBA's First-Ever Social Media Awards

The NBA recently hosted its inaugural Social Media Awards, a first-of-its-kind award show that recognized a few NBA players and their stand-out achievements in the off-court game of Social Media. While the Miami Heat may have won the NBA Finals, Dream Systems Media, a Salt Lake based Internet marketing firm, has recently launched an infographic that shows that the Oklahoma City Thunder have officially beat the Miami Heat, as far as social media is concerned.

We thought it was a really progressive gesture for the NBA to host such an event. It has been fun to see the league and its players embrace the technology and so we wanted to recognize the milestone in our own way.

The NBA recently hosted its inaugural Social Media Awards, a first-of-its-kind awards show that recognized a few NBA players and their standout achievements in the off-court game of Social Media. While the Miami Heat may have won the NBA Finals, Dream Systems Media, a Salt Lake based Internet marketing firm, has recently launched an infographic that shows that the Oklahoma City Thunder have officially beat the Miami Heat, as far as social media is concerned.

It’s something that has never been done before – a professional sports league giving recognition to its players for their off-the-court digital endeavors, outside of the game itself. Though it may have been a foreign concept to some, the team at Dream Systems Media is proud to launch the infographic illustrating the results because they feel the event was an exciting step in the relationship between sports and technology.

“We thought it was a really progressive gesture for the NBA to host such an event,” said David Mink, a co-founder of Dream Systems Media. “It has been fun to see the league and its players embrace the technology and so we wanted to recognize the milestone in our own way.”

Amongst the star players in the game of Twitter, Facebook and the Blogosphere, the infographic highlights the social media achievements of Jeremy Lin, Kobe Bryant and Blake Griffin, to name a few. However, what stands out most is the fact that none of the Miami Heat‘s “Big Three” received an award – Kevin Durant was the only player from the Finals to be recognized.

Despite the fact that Durant may not have made the big shots when his team needed it most, he chalked up a victory in the NBA’s inaugural Social Media Awards and, therefore, earned a spot on the victory surface of Dream System Media’s newest infographic.
