After announcing the addition of Device Control to the Lumension® Endpoint Management and Security Suite (L.E.M.S.S.) last month, L.E.M.S.S. continues to gain momentum as the most robust and agile suite in the industry. Growing Industry Recognition

• FIPS 140-2 Validation: The Lumension Cryptographic Kernel within L.E.M.S.S. Device Control achieved FIPS 140-2 (Federal Information Processing Standards) Validation by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC). Lumension joins a small list of software modules with level 2 validation. FIPS 140-2 is a US government computer security standard used to accredit cryptographic modules and to certify private sector vendor products for use in government and regulated industries that collect, store, transfer, share and disseminate sensitive information. Validation is mandatory for any cryptographic product used in U.S. government agency work.
• SC Magazine Product Review: L.E.M.S.S. was also recognized in the July 1 edition of SC Magazine with five out of five stars overall review rating. SC Magazine researchers found the product, server implementation, policy creation and client deployment to be easy and intuitive. They also found that L.E.M.S.S. to be unique among traditional endpoint security devices due to its asset management capabilities which were considered an innovative and effective approach on endpoint management and protection.
• Virus Bulletin Magazine’s VB 100 Review: In its very first independent antivirus test, L.E.M.S.S. AntiVirus achieved a VB100 award in Virus Bulletin Magazine’s comparative review, published in the June issue. This VB100 recognition was awarded as L.E.M.S.S detected 100 percent of “in the wild” malware samples without any false positives. In addition, L.E.M.S.S. detected 99.98 percent of polymorphic viruses, 96.69 percent of worms and bots and 96.41 percent of Trojans. The VB100 is a widely recognized, independent testing of antivirus products. In this review, products were tested on the Windows Server 2008 R2 platform and L.E.M.S.S. was compared to a number of well-known, well-respected AV products.

L.E.M.S.S. customer Jason Brown, Network Engineer with EM Solutions, implemented Lumension® Intelligent Whitelisting – a L.E.M.S.S. solution that integrates Patch Management, AntiVirus and Application Control – and reported favorable experiences with the new platform.“We have not had any virus outbreaks on the machines with Intelligent Whitelisting and we have transitioned away from our former antivirus solution. Intelligent Whitelisting has kept more machines running optimally while reducing the amount of time I need to spend on re-imaging downed endpoints.”

New Enhanced Features
Lumension also announced additional functionality for the latest version of its free Application Scanner tool, which identifies an environment’s known and unknown applications. In addition to enhanced scoring metrics, the Application Scanner is now interfaced with L.E.M.S.S. and able to reconcile discovered applications against the Lumension Endpoint Integrity Service.
