Patient Prompt®, the leader in bi-directional patient communication, has launched a unique initiative to assist the growing number of physician-sponsored Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) meet their quality measures obligations.

At the beginning of January 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that 106 ACOs will join the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). This development, CMS reports, brings the total number of MSSP ACOs to “more than 250” who, together, cover up to four million Medicare beneficiaries.

Accountable Care Organization growth has also continued outside of the Medicare program, with 428 total ACOs now existing in 49 states. Additionally, physician groups have overtaken hospital systems and are now the largest backers of ACOs.

Accountable Care Organization funding is based on meeting 33 Quality Measures, broken into four distinct groups:

  • Patient/Caregiver Experience
  • At-Risk Population
  • Care Coordination/Patient Safety
  • Preventative Health

In order for an ACO to qualify for funding, it must achieve a minimum satisfaction score of 70% in each category.
