The Pa. Bar Association press release announcing this ground breaking certification order by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in early 2012 stated that “The process and certification that was approved by the order, according to PBA President Matthew J. Creme Jr., benefits both the public and the legal practitioner. “Certification of lawyers in workers’ compensation law will give consumers valuable guidance, and it will afford legal practitioners the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and expertise in the area of workers’ compensation law”, Creme said in a recent PBA press release announcing the order.”
“The application process to be allowed to even take the examination was quite specific and exhaustive,” Palutis explained. “It required that the applicant attorney have practiced in the area of Pa. Workers’ Compensation Law for a specific number of years, that the applicant’s continuing education courses and primary area of practice over those years have been in the field of Pa. Workers’ Compensation Law and the applicant had to demonstrate with the submission of written briefs, proposed findings and case lists that the applicant has handled and litigated all aspects of Pa. Workers’ Compensation Law.”
“The written examination was a four hour examination and covered a multitude of areas of substantive and procedural law pertaining to Pa. Workers’ Compensation Law. The format was designed to be like the Bar Exam,” Palutis stated. “The exam and the certification process definitely meet their intended purpose of aiding the general public in selecting knowledgeable Pa. Workers’ Compensation attorneys who have the required expertise to handle their Workers’ Comp cases.”
