O'Neill Plastic Surgery, a Charleston cosmetic surgery and reconstruction practice, was a sponsor in the Share Our Suzy Black & White event on January 26, 2013. The office was one of many sponsors that donated money for breast cancer patients and research, and was very happy to contribute in helping the fifth annual event raise approximately $30,000.

"Participating as a sponsor in the Share Our Suzy event was not a difficult decision in the slightest,” said Charleston breast augmentation surgeon Dr. Patrick O'Neill. “We felt that it was important to do our part in the community. We understand how much of a financial burden the battle with breast cancer, or any form of cancer, can be. We knew that the money was going to an excellent cause, and we wanted to make sure Suzy's memory lives on."

The event took place from seven to midnight on January 26, and it included a night of food, drinks, and dancing to live music from the band Chairmen of the Board. The money raised came from the ticket sales for the event and the sponsorships of the companies involved. The fund helps both the patients battling the breast cancer, and their families.

This year marked the fifth anniversary that the event was held in honor of Suzy McGrane. McGrane was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early 20s and passed away in 2005 after the disease returned in the fall of 2004. The charity began in Columbia, South Carolina by friends as she battled the disease in Arizona beside her family. SOS was created as an effort to help raise money to pay for her treatments. Originally called Save our Suzy, the charity has since changed to its new name. The goal of the organization is to allow patients to focus solely on the recovery process and not the financial aspect of battling cancer.

People diagnosed with cancer do not necessarily have to apply on their own to receive funding from Share Our Suzy. Friends and family members, or the patient’s medical team can also refer worthy patients to the organization. Doctors and nurses are also welcome to nominate people in their care who may be struggling with the financial burden of fighting cancer.

The Share Our Suzy website notes that the goal of the organization is "To honor the spirit of Suzy McGrane by raising money and resources to assist and support breast cancer patients from diagnosis to remission."
