We have heard from numerous patients who allegedly suffered serious, uncontrolled bleeding while using Pradaxa. The lack of a reversal agent is a major issue in hundreds of Pradaxa lawsuits currently pending in courts throughout the country.

The Pradaxa lawyers at Bernstein Liebhard LLP note that a new study has highlighted the dangers associated with the brain bleeding that can sometimes occur in patients treated with the blood thinner, especially given the fact that there exists no readily available antidote for this potential Pradaxa side effect. The research, published online May 1st in the Journal of Neurosurgery, found that head trauma victims were more likely to die from brain bleeding if they had been using Pradaxa in comparison to patients taking warfarin. The study authors surmised that the lack of an effective reversal agent could account for the higher death rate among Pradaxa patients.*
“The findings of this study are not surprising. We have heard from numerous patients who allegedly suffered serious, uncontrolled bleeding while using Pradaxa. The lack of a reversal agent is a major issue in hundreds of Pradaxa lawsuits currently pending in courts throughout the country,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm’s Pradaxa lawyers are currently offering free legal evaluations to alleged victims of Pradaxa bleeding.
Pradaxa was approved for sale by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in October 2010 to prevent strokes in people with atrial fibrillation. Court records indicate that 645 Pradaxa lawsuits are now pending in a federal litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois. Among other things, allegations in the lawsuits accuse Boehringer Ingelheim of failing to adequately warn that there is no readily-available antidote for Pradaxa bleeding. The first trials in the federal Pradaxa litigation are scheduled to begin in September 2014. (In Re: Pradaxa (Dabigatran Etexilate) Products Liability Litigation – MDL No. 2385)
According to a Bloomberg.com report published on December 11th, regulators in several countries have issued Pradaxa side effect alerts since the drug was first brought to market. In 2011 alone, the FDA received reports of 542 deaths and 3,781 side-effect incidents tied to Pradaxa, Bloomberg said. On January 9th, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices revealed that an analysis of hemorrhage cases reported to the FDA during the second quarter of 2012 found that Pradaxa bleeding is 5 times more likely to result in death compared to warfarin bleeding.
Victims of serious Pradaxa side effects may be eligible to collect compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and more.
