PropertyRecord.com has added additional servers that will allow them to update property values to their database more quickly than before, company officials said yesterday.
“We believe that market values are going to change more rapidly than we'd expected,” said a company spokesman. “That means we have to be much more flexible when it comes to our IT infrastructure if we want to keep our records up to date.”
The company provides people with records about the value of a given property as well as other publicly available real estate information.
“There is evidence that in some parts of the country, property values may rise fairly quickly,” said the rep. “On the other hand, there is also evidence that in other areas property values my drop due to outside influences that cannot be predicted. We have to be able to handle both of those situations.”
The company first thought about bringing new servers online after Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast last year.
“That's the type of event that can drastically affect property values,” the company agent said. “And, we had to think that if it could happen once in one part of the country, it can happen again somewhere else, so we have to prepare for that.”
The new servers are now online, and the company is currently doing a complete overhaul of its entire database.
“New information that would have taken us several weeks to upload using our old system should now be able to be put online in a matter of days,” said PropertyRecord.com. “We think that will offer our customers a more accurate picture of what a given property is actually worth.”
