RecordAccount.com is going to try to improve employee job satisfaction by giving employees the option to work four-day weeks, company officials said yesterday.
“Everyone likes a long weekend,” said company spokesman Josh Fraser. “This way we can make sure that our employees have the option of a three-day weekend every weekend if they want it.”
The system will work by giving workers the chance to work four 10-hour days instead of the traditional five eight-hour days, Fraser said.
“This is not a mandatory program,” Fraser said. “Our workers can still work a traditional schedule if they want to. This simply gives them more choices on how they want to spread out their work/life balance.”
The idea came to the company, Fraser said, when they noticed that on the fifth day in a row of work, employees were far less productive than during the other four days of the work week.
“Dealing with customers can burn people out during the course of the week,” Fraser said. “That's not good for either our customers or our customer service representatives. This way we should be able to make everyone happy.”
Fraser said he did not think that the extra hours in the day would lead to more employee burnout.
“When we asked our people if working an extra two hours in exchange for an extra day off would help them or hinder them, nearly all of them said they thought it sounded like a good deal,” Fraser said.
Employees will also have the option to simply work two 10-hour days and then work a half day on their fifth day, Fraser said.
“It's all up to them,” Fraser said. “Our workers know how they work best better than we do. It's an individual choice.”
