It is possible to control the symptoms of rosacea, and that's where the willowherb flower has proven to be so effective," says William Perry, founder of Rosacea Care.

Who could imagine that a roadside wildflower from northern Canada would be providing relief for so many with the skin problem known as rosacea? Rosacea Care, which pioneered the use of willowherb in the treatment of rosacea and sensitive skin, has just added an 80th country to their customer base. The national flower of the Yukon is one of the primary ingredients in their line of professional skin care products and is credited with much of the company’s increasing reach.
“Rosacea is a skin condition affecting people all over the globe. According to the National Rosacea Society, there are 45 million people with rosacea worldwide, including 16 million in the U.S. alone,” says William Perry, founder of Rosacea Care. “We have many customers in the U.S., Australia, England, Germany and France, but now we can even add Kyrgyzstan and Liechtenstein to our list.”
Rosacea is characterized by facial redness, frequently accompanied by pimples and visible blood vessels. People who suffer from rosacea often experience social and occupational embarrassment. At present, there is no cure, but it is possible to control the symptoms of rosacea, and Perry says that’s where the willowherb flower has proven to be so effective. The extract of Epilobium Angustifolium, commonly known as fireweed, has natural anti-inflammatory, anti-irritant and antimicrobial functions.
Perry explains the remarkable nature of willowherb. “In the Yukon, whenever a forest fire has destroyed trees and vegetation, the first signs of returning life are the small green shoots and magenta flowers of the willowherb, which spring up almost before the ashes are cold. And in the same way that willowherb covers the scars of the burning forest, it is able to soothe the burning and redness that rosacea brings to the skin.”
Perry points out that North American natives over many centuries used the juice from the plant to reduce inflammation and help in healing wounds, and now modern extracts have been developed for topical application. The extract used by Rosacea Care is tested in vivo and produced by the Fytokem Company in Saskatchewan, Canada. Rosacea Care products are manufactured in U.S. laboratories. The company’s serum, moisturizer, night cream, facial gel, soothing spray and concealer products all contain willowherb as a prime ingredient.
Perry says there is a psychological side to willowherb as well. Its early appearance after a forest fire gives assurance that nature will restore the land. And during World War II in London, a form of willowherb offered hope by flowering in the bomb craters.
