In mid September the streets of Philadelphia will be jam packed for runners, spectators and music fans for the Philadelphia leg of the 2012 Rock N' Roll Marathon Series. The increasingly popular 1980s cover band Long Duk Dong, fronted by Scott Tucker have recently been added to the line up of bands who will be playing live along the route. The fitness website fitnesslifestories.com recently reported that according to the band's website they will be joining Cobra Starship amongst others in this unique festival of half marathon running and rock music.
Since forming back in 2010 Long Duk Dong have gone on to carve out a reputation as one of the best 80s cover bands in the country. The DC based band have been touring relentlessly throughout 2012 and their mix of edgy alternative rock and singalong anthems has helped them to build up a loyal fanbase. The Philadelphia leg on the Rock N' Roll Marathon Series is one of many dates in North America this year. The growing popularity of the series has seen some European dates being booked for the Spring of 2013. A recent review on The Examiner reported that the band look set to continue their rapid rise to the top.
Dates have already been confirmed for marathons in Dublin, Edinburgh and Madrid. The Rock N' Roll Philadelphia half marathon was established in 1978 and was originally called the Philadelphia Distance Run until it was renamed in 2009. It is traditionally held on the third Sunday of September and regularly attracts top class marathon runners alongside amateur charity runners. The winners of the 2011 event were Mathew Kisorio (men) and Kimberly Smith (women), who both set new course records that are not expected to be broken any time soon.
