On Friday 8th of March, Pablo Rodriguez Pina, founder and co-director of the Perth (Western Australia) based software company announced the company will be investigating and testing the new in-beta MYOB API.
The company, a certified MYOB developer partner which specialises in Enterprise Java Development received earlier on the month MYOBs announcement of the release of the beta version of the new API.
The new API offers developers the possibility of integrating with MYOBs AccountRight range of products via JSON format as opposed to integrating via ODBC. The new API will be the same for either desktop installations of Account Right as for the SaaS version AccountRight Live.
In the words of Pablo Rodriguez Pina: “We were very pleased to received this news from MYOB for a number of reasons: first of all, being able to integrate with AccountRight via JSON format makes our deployments more platform independent than ever. The MYOB ODBC driver was shipped in 32 bit format and all our deployments today are made using 64 bit JVMs. Connecting to a 32 bit ODBC data source from a 64 bit JVM means adding a JDBC bridge to the stack which means an additional layer to the architecture, an additional point of failure. The other main reason for our enthusiasm when we received the news is the unified API for both desktop and SaaS versions. Customers are slowly adjusting to cloud services. Inviting a customer to keep their accounting data in the cloud can be challenging in terms of security concerns. As an IT company, we envisage a great future for the SaaS model but we are aware there is a transition stage. With the new API, we can start developing integration for customers using the desktop version and would have to do minimal changes if the customers decide to go SaaS.”
