On Tuesday 30 April, 2013, Pablo Rodriguez Pina, founder and director of the Perth (Western Australia) based software company announced the company will commence a proof of concept for a renewable energy system integrating a series of devices with a Raspberry Pi and a PC in kiosk mode.

From a hardware point of view, The Raspberry Pi was chosen over other ARM boards mainly due to cost and usage. The Raspberry Pi being one of the most widely adopted devices is slowly becoming a reference platform for embedded development and testing. For less than $50 USD, one can have a 512 MB RAM Raspberry Pi delivered.
Using embedded Java on a production system where the embedded device operates in any way different to a standard PC (e.g. integrating with PLCs in a headless mode) incurs an affordable royalty fee of about $0.60 (60 cents USD) per ARM processor < 800Mhz.
A second licensing option offered by Oracle allows customers to address the royalty fees with a single (upfront) payment.
Anahata will commence development on the proof of concept throughout May 2013 and the project viability evaluation is expected to be announced in June 2013.
