Perth, Western Australia (PRWEB) May 05, 2013
On Friday 1st March, 2013, Pablo Rodriguez Pina, founder and director of the Perth (Western Australia) based software company announced the company agrees with Oracle on prioritizing Java security.
On April 2013, Oracle rescheduled the release date for Java 8 to 2014 stating engineers efforts had been diverted from Java 8 development towards improving platform stability.
Since last year, several updates to Java 7 have been released in a shorter than usual amount on time, most of them addressing security vulnerabilities, sometimes within weeks of having been discovered.
In the words of Pablo Rodriguez Pina: “We can see Oracle has been making a big effort in recent months towards improving Java security. We are of the opinion that platform stability and the reputation of the Java brand are first priority.”
Java 8, which was initially scheduled for september 2013 has now been moved to early 2014. Java 8’s main feature is the introduction of Lambda expressions. A language feature which is expected to allow developers to write and maintain Java code in a more efficient manner by replacing single method anonymous inner classes with a reduced syntax.
In the words of Pablo Rodriguez Pina: “As software developers, we are always very enthusiastic when it comes to new Java features. A big slice of our solutions are enterprise desktop applications using Swing and JavaFX. JavaFX in particular makes a extensive use of single method interfaces such as JavaFX property change listeners, factory methods using CallBacks or event handling via EventHandler implementations. Any of these are often implemented as anonymous inner classes. IDEs such as NetBeans are very good at providing code autocompletion for anonymous inner classes but Lambda expressions would introduce a new syntax that will reduce the amount of code required for implementing the same feature.”
The company, which specializes in desktop based enterprise resource planning solutions as well as other desktop bsaed management systems, uses Java Web Start for dektop deployment. Java Web Start, a technology that allows for automatic Java Runtime And application deployment on the user's desktop is often launched from a web browser even though it is not defendant on it. Recently security vulnerabilities in the Java web browser plugin had caused some browser vendors to automatically the Java plugin or prompt with a security risk acknowledgement.
By enhancing platform security, desktop deployment of the custom built enterprise applications will be executed without unnecessary security warnings and will restore the improve the reputation of the Java brand itself.
