School choice is such an important issue and our students enjoyed seeing government at work

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 08, 2013

Atlanta’s premier school for special needs, Cumberland Academy of Georgia, serves students with high-functioning Autism, Asperger’s, LD, ADD and ADHD. Cumberland students recently experienced a trip to the State Capitol of Georgia. A rally was planned in order to celebrate National School Choice Week. Students from Cumberland who attended the political rally joined other Georgia residents to demonstrate their desire for expansion of educational options for children. Cumberland students listened to speeches describe how the choices of legislators would affect their school choice. Organizers of the rally gave out yellow scarves to signify participation in the event which all Cumberland students and staff wore.

In addition to the rally, students also spent the day touring and exploring the Capitol museum before returning to school. “School choice is such an important issue,” said Debbi Scarborough, Founding Director of Cumberland Academy. “And, our students enjoyed seeing government at work.”
