Close to $6.3 million will be placed toward bets on Super Bowl 47 today, according to Time's recent article entitled "Prop Bets, Sports Books, And Beyoncé’s Cleavage: Everything You Need To Know About Super Bowl Gambling." However, not all of that money will be wagered on the actual game, and Go Banking Rates examined the additional wagers being placed this year on what are known as "prop bets," explaining how they work and supplying odds.
Super Bowl prop bets – wagers placed on something other than the outcome of the game – have been growing in popularity and provide an additional element of excitement for Super Bowl viewers. Go Banking Rates investigated which prop bets would available on sports books for Super Bowl 47, and found many of them will center on the Beyoncé half time show.
Beyoncé bets include whether her hair will be straight rather than curly (36% chance), whether it will be worn down instead of up (85% chance), and if Jay-Z will join Beyoncé on stage during the halftime show (47% chance), as detailed by Yahoo! Sports journalist Frank Schwab in "Super Bowl Props, the Silly Ones."
"Prop bets are a fun way for people to participate in the excitement of the Super Bowl without having to know a thing about football," says Go Banking Rates managing editor, Casey Bond.
