It’s a great opportunity for people who stop into this site to learn more about St. Landry Parish and know where they want to be and understand the sights and sounds of St. Landry – it’s really a great, innovative step for tourism.

Utilizing funds allocated from the BP Oil Spill settlement, the St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission has unveiled the first multi-touch tourism table exhibit in Louisiana. In a joint effort with Teamwork Solutions Group of Lafayette, Louisiana and multi-touch display manufacturer Ideum Inc. of Corrales, New Mexico, the Tourist Center has developed an interactive multi-touch exhibit that attracts, informs and entertains visitors on site in the center’s lobby.
The exhibit provides in-depth information about local events, attractions, photo galleries, videos, historical information and printable maps, with the intention of increasing traffic to local attractions and establishments.
“The facility itself is a state-of-the-art facility, and now, having this table, it’s also a first and a one-of-a-kind for Louisiana tourism,” said Jay Dardenne, Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana. “It’s a great opportunity for people who stop into this site to learn more about St. Landry Parish and know where they want to be and understand the sights and sounds of St. Landry – it’s really a great, innovative step for tourism.”
Another benefit for the Louisiana economy is the fact that the developers of the exhibit software, Teamwork Solutions Group, are also a Louisiana-based company.
“We’re employing Louisianians and seeing their talent to be able to take it to this level,” said Dardenne. “That’s a very good thing. Usually you see something like this, and it’s being imported from somewhere else, but this is a home-grown product.”
Developing the software for the exhibit was a unique challenge that required both technical expertise and creativity.
“The challenge of this project was to create something that was attractive, informational, entertaining and above all – easy to use,” said Casey Deshotels, President & CEO of Teamwork Solutions Group. “Being given the opportunity to develop an application using this cutting-edge platform was very satisfying, to really be able to tap into our creative abilities and do something out of the ordinary. We’re thrilled just to be a part of it all.”
The inspiration for the multi-touch tourism table project came from a similar exhibit at the Grammy museum in Los Angeles, California.
“While visiting the newly opened Grammy museum in Los Angeles, I was impressed with a similar exhibit, where multiple users could explore details regarding the different genres of music,” said Celeste Gomez, Director of the St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission. “It was something I kept in the back of my mind as a potential application for our visitor center here in Louisiana. We’re excited that we finally had the opportunity to turn the idea into a reality.”
